Thomas J. Thornton

Thomas J. Thornton of Weymouth, died June 10, 2017 at 96 years old.

Tom grew up in Mission Hill and has lived in Weymouth for over 40 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, as a medic in Europe during WWII; he recently had the privilege of experiencing an Honor Flight in Washington DC in recognition of his service. Tom worked many years for the City of Boston as a Health Inspector as well as a second job at the post office. After retiring, Tom could be found at the Whipple Center in Weymouth or the Bernie King Pavilion on Nantasket Beach showing off his dance moves. He was blessed with many friends at both places. He will be missed terribly.

Devoted husband of the late Theresa (Corley) Thornton; father of Alan Schneider of Weymouth, Judith Schneider and wife Julie of Holbrook, James Schneider and wife Nancy of Weymouth, Jill White and husband George of Easton, Michele Campbell and husband Warren “Buzz” of Pembroke, Lee Osby and husband Bill of VA, Patricia Gravalese of Quincy. “Grandpa Tom” to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Loving brother of Joseph Thornton and wife Claire of Brookline. Also survived by his cherished nieces.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square).

Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM.

Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Tom may be made to the Whipple Senior Center at the McCulloch Building, 182 Green Street, Weymouth, MA 02191.
