Thomas P. Shanley

Thomas “Tom” P. Shanley of Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at the age of 81, leaving behind a remarkable legacy woven from the threads of love, dedication, and joyful memories. Born on November 20, 1943, in Springfield, MA, Tom was the cherished son of Thomas and Margaret Shanley.

An esteemed graduate of Cathedral High School in 1961, Tom’s commitment to education followed him to Bentley College, where he graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. After completing his studies, Tom honorably served in the U.S. Army in South Korea, a defining chapter in his life, where destiny intervened through a meeting with Sa Cha. Their love blossomed and, in a testament to their commitment, Sa Cha joined Tom to start a life together in the United States. They exchanged vows on July 28, 1972, embarking on a journey that would span over five decades, rich with family, joy, and profound love.

Together, Tom and Sa Cha raised two wonderful children, Elizabeth and Thomas, ultimately settling in Hingham in 1978. Tom was a devoted husband and father, and his unwavering support emphasized the importance of hard work and determination—lessons he taught by example. He took great pride in making sacrifices for the well-being of his family, ensuring that they were well-provided for.

Survived by his beloved wife, Sa Cha Shanley (Pak), and his cherished children—Elizabeth M. Shanley and her husband, Joseph Casal of Hingham, MA, and Thomas P. Shanley, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Milton, MA—Tom’s family was the bedrock of his existence. He also leaves behind his sister, Margaret A. Shanley of Agawam, MA, cousin, Charles Viens and his wife, Barbara, of Westfield, MA, and five adoring grandchildren: Thomas G. Casal, Christina E. Casal, James B. Shanley, Thomas Patrick Shanley III, and Maggie F. Shanley. Their births marked some of Tom's happiest moments, as he relished every opportunity to support them, whether it be in the classroom, on the field, or during performances.

Tom enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends, eating lobster, and enjoying a cold Budweiser at the family summer home in York Beach, Maine. When his children were younger, spending time at Loon Mountain brought Tom delight as he learned to ski later in life. He also found joy in competitive target shooting, where he skillfully demonstrated his marksmanship. But above all, Tom loved playing spirited games of cribbage and poker with his family.

The ultimate cheerleader for his grandchildren, Tom never missed an opportunity to support and encourage them. His presence at sporting events was a testament to the love he carried for his family— memories that will forever be in the hearts of his grandchildren.

Tom’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and a commitment to family that will live on through the generations. His spirit will forever shine brightly among those who knew him, inspiring them to uphold the values by which he lived.
