With great sorrow, we announced the passing of Ursula “ Urs” Matthes, following a brief illness at the age of 97.

She grew up in Malden, Ma and resided in Weymouth for almost 60 years. Most recently lived at Maplewood at Mayflower Place in West Yarmouth.

A member of the Halifax country club for more than 30 years. Most proud of three holes in one! She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing various games with cards, dice and trivia and usually won. She’ll be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Cherished wife of the late Francis Matthes, daughter of the late James and Florence FitzGerald of Malden. Survived by sister Jeanne Smith of Tucker, Ga. Predeceased by brother James FitzGerald of Quincy and Gerald FitzGerald of Malden. She is also survived by her three children and their spouses her son Paul and his wife Betsy of Antrim NH, daughter Patricia Pelosi and husband Michael of Wilmington, Ma., daughter Linda DelVecchio and husband David of West Yarmouth. Five grandchildren Cheryl Matthes and partner Aaron Hyer, Christina Moore and her husband Joseph, Daniel DelVecchio and wife Margaret, Matthew DelVecchio, and Michael Pelosi. Four great grandchildren, Ceirra, Brandon, Nora and Donovan.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited Thursday October 30th for the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ursula may be made to March of Dimes.
