Virginia Diana (DiSalvio) Roccuzzo, a lifelong resident of Quincy, Massachusetts, died peacefully on April 29, 2025, after a long illness. She was 93. Virginia was the youngest daughter of the late Panfilo and Quintilia (“Lena” Chella) DiSalvio and one of 13 children.
Born in Quincy on August 5, 1931, Virginia was a graduate of Quincy High School, where she took business preparatory courses and was a standout drum majorette. At Myrbeck & Jacobs, while working as a stenographer, she met her husband, Agrippino A. (Rocky) Roccuzzo, then a draftsman. They married in 1953. When Rocky was deployed to Germany with the US Army, Virginia joined him in Frankfurt, where they lived for two years and where their elder daughter was born. During their stay in Europe, they took their new Volkswagen Beetle on a memorable road trip to Abruzzo and Sicily to meet relatives on both sides of the family. She reminisced fondly about their travels in Italy for the rest of her life.
Sociable and fun-loving, Virginia enjoyed preparing Italian dishes, adored music and dancing, became proficient in various crafts, and designed and sewed bespoke outfits for herself and her two daughters. She could grow anything, fix anything, and had a song for any occasion. Virginia was a familiar sight on the streets of Quincy behind the wheel of her pristine 1972 powder blue Dodge Dart. She and her husband were avid bowlers and golfers and treasured their time on Cape Cod. For many years, Virginia and Rocky were active in the Order Sons of Italy in America, Quincy Lodge, where they regularly attended social and cultural events with a cherished circle of friends. Throughout her life, her foremost concern was the welfare and happiness of others. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Virginia was predeceased by her husband and her younger daughter, Leona Elizabeth Douglas.
In her later years, Virginia lived at Atria Marina Place in Quincy, where she was a popular and beloved member of a welcoming, lively community of residents and compassionate caregivers. Her final residence was with the kindhearted nurses of RegalCare at Quincy.
She is survived by her daughter, Josephine Roccuzzo, of Providence, Rhode Island; her grandchildren, Sarah (Hogan) and her husband Max Nielsen, Chogan Roccuzzo, and Jesse Douglas; her great grandson, Jaxon Rocky Johnson; and her brothers, Gerald DiSalvio of Quincy and Edward DiSalvio and his wife Rita of Weymouth; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great grandnieces and grandnephews. Virginia was also the sister of the late Samuel, Louis, William, Robert, Paul, Eunice, and Eva DiSalvio; Anna Durante; Olga Golden; and Angelina Bastarache.
The memorial service will be private. Interment at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia’s memory to the charity of your choice.
