Walter J. Lane, 76, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026 with his wife by his side.

Walter is survived by his wife of 57 years Cindi (Cynthia Lally), son Adam of Holbrook, and daughter Shelley Dillon (Paul) of Duxbury. Beloved Papa to Katie Lane-DeLue (Gavin) of Weymouth; Christopher (Emile) of Holbrook; James and Patrick Dillon of Duxbury and honorary grandson Nicholaus Ripley (Emilija) of Maine. One of eight children, Walter is survived by Richard (Jane) of Ipswich; Thomas (Pauline) of Weymouth; Stephen (Maria) of East Bridgewater; Pamela of North Dighton; Janet Vye of North Dighton; Kevin (Katherine) of New Hampshire; Kristin DeGrott of Florida; as well as many dearly loved nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his parents Richard, Joan Haddix and step-mother Doris Solari (Dolly), father-in-law Paul Lally, mother-in-law, Ardis Lally, and daughter-in-law Karen.

Walter was a graduate of North Quincy High School and earned an associate degree in business from Quincy College. He had a remarkable 37 year career at The Gillette Company where he became a well-known and respected Quality & Systems Supervisor. During his time at Gillette he had the pleasure of working with his brothers, son, daughter and nephew. He was fortunate to be able to retire young.

Walter met the love of his life Cindi on June 15, 1966 when he hid in her school locker to surprise her. Their love story blossomed from that moment becoming lifelong high school sweethearts. Walter sold his cherished surfboard in 1967 to buy Cindi a promise ring. They were married the following year and built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, traveling and many wonderful memories. Walter enjoyed golfing, woodworking, traveling, and spending quality time with family. Known for his remarkable sense of humor and mischievous wit, he was a man of few words but never hesitated to say exactly what was on his mind. For forty years, he delighted generations by playing Santa Claus during the annual Christmas party and created years of holiday magic.

Following his Parkinson's diagnosis in 2022, Walter became a sponsored warrior of the Punch 4 Parkinson's organization. He received weekly boxing therapy and shared many laughs with Sarah McDonough at TMX Boxing in Quincy. We would like to thank everyone at TMX Boxing for their generosity and support to both Walter and Cindi. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday 8/8/2026 from 10 AM-12PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Funeral service will be celebrated in the Funeral Home at Noon.
