Walter Clarence Stone III

Walter Clarence Stone III of Plymouth, formerly of Hull, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. He was 81.

Walter was born in Medford on August 15, 1942, and was the son of the late Walter Clarence Stone II and Eva (Myers) Stone. He was raised in Medford and Arlington, attended local schools, and graduated from Arlington High School. Following high school, Walter enlisted in the United States Army, and proudly served his country. After his time in the service, Walter’s boundless curiosity led him on many adventures across America. Traveling by buses, freight trains and drive -away cars Walter began filling his life with experiences that would eventually nurture his love and talent as a storyteller.

Born with an insatiable desire for knowledge, Walter became an avid reader and immersed himself in the pages of countless books. A true aficionado of history, Walter delved into the depths of genealogy, uncovering his ancestry, long before the advent of Ancestry.com. His quest for knowledge was matched only by his love for 50’s rhythm and blues music that he shared with his older brother Norman.

For over five decades, Walter found solace and joy in the gentle embrace of the beach, where he built a home filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. His charismatic presence and quick wit lit up every gathering, leaving an indelible mark on all who met him.

But above all, Walter held his family close to his heart, finding joy and fulfillment in their love and companionship. Walter’s strength of will was matched only by his boundless charm, drawing people to him like moths to a flame. His honesty was unwavering, a trait that earned him the respect and admiration.

Walter was the husband of the late Kathleen K. (Kedian) Stone, who died in 2018. The two married on August 26, 1966, and together they shared 52 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Walter C. Stone IV and his wife Tina of Hull, Jennifer A. Stone of Plymouth, Johnathan D. Stone of Fall River, and Michael B. Stone and his fiancée Missy Noddin of Hull. Walter was the loving grandfather of Stone Gampel, Jackie Gampel, Alex Gampel, Caden Stone, Duncan Stone, Milo Stone and William Stone. He was the loving great grandfather of Naveenah and Freyah Sullivan. Walter was the dear brother of David Stone and his wife Heather of Cambridge, Debra Stone and her husband Isaiah McCartney of West Yarmouth, and the late Norman Stone of Westfield. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Walter will be interred privately in Hull Village Cemetery, Hull.

A celebration of Walter’s life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Walter’s name to Harbor House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 11 Condito Rd., Hingham, MA 02043.
