William Francis “Bill” Baker, Det. BPD Retired, of Hull, formerly of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Bill was born in Boston, and was the son of the late Francis Baker and Lorraine (Prescott) Mooney.

After graduating from high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. Following his time in the service, Bill continued his education at UMass Boston, Curry College, and later earned his master’s degree from Anna Maria College.

Bill married Marilyn, the love of his life, and they were happily married for 52 years. Their story began years earlier when they met in high school. After Bill’s time in the service, they reconnected on the Cape, beginning the next chapter of their lives together.

Calm and steady under pressure, Bill was someone others could always count on, especially when things became difficult. His quiet strength, compassion, and generosity made him a source of comfort and support to his family and friends. Bill loved being surrounded by people but never sought the spotlight. He was selfless and genuinely interested in others, always listening first and making people feel heard.

Bill proudly served 30 years with the Boston Police Department. During his distinguished career, he served as both a patrolman and a detective, roles that reflected his intelligence, patience, composure, and dedication to serving others. Bill was someone people could depend on. He approached his work with the same quiet determination and strong sense of responsibility that defined his life.

A gifted athlete, Bill excelled at baseball and softball, especially at shortstop. He loved playing and watching sports throughout his life.

Above all else, Bill was devoted to his family. His grandchildren were Bill’s greatest joy. He and Marilyn enjoyed every moment with them and were always there to support, encourage, and cheer them on, taking pride in all they accomplished. Their presence in their grandchildren’s lives was a gift that will be cherished forever.

Bill was the beloved husband of Marilyn Louise (Brown) Baker. He was the devoted father of Brian Baker and his wife Kimberly of Pembroke, Kristin Sisk and her husband Robert of Huntersville, North Carolina, and Alison Fournier and her husband Rick of Braintree. Bill was the loving grandfather of Brady Baker of Pembroke, Chloe Sisk of Huntersville, North Carolina, Anna, Isla and Maisie Fournier, all of Braintree. He was the dear brother of John Baker and his wife Deborah of Weymouth, Paul Baker of Quincy, and Donna Furtado of Weymouth. Bill is also survived by many extended friends and family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 4-7 PM, in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square).

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Cremation will follow.

Interment with US Marine Military Honors will be held privately in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, at a later date.
