Cratty, William M., Jr. of Weymouth, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with dementia on January 3, 2026. He was 86 years old.
Born and raised in Boston, he was the son of the late William M. and Evelyn M.(Jenks) Cratty. Bill was a man whose life was defined by enduring love, a commitment to his faith, and a dedication to service.
After meeting his beloved wife, Mary, at a dance, a beautiful partnership blossomed, culminating in 62 years of shared life's journeys. United in marriage at the age of 25, William, a proud alumnus of the Boston Schools, carried forth the values of discipline and camaraderie nurtured in his younger years as part of the Holy Name band and choir.
William's service extended into various aspects of his life, notably through his voluntary association with the Coast Guard Reserve. His passion for community and faith was evident as an exceedingly active member of St. Albert the Great Church. Here, William served as a lector, an engaged member of the parish council, and contributed to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, reflecting his loving and kind spirit.
Imbued with passion, he traveled extensively with joyous sojourns to Ireland, Scotland, Israel, Međugorje, and Nova Scotia. These journeys enriched his understanding and compassion, qualities he expressed through his involvement with prison ministry and the Weymouth Little League during his sons Bill and Greg’s childhood.
A man of many interests, William's athletic spirit shone brightly as an exceptional bowler, where he not only played with the Boston Edison Bowling team but also merged his love for sports and ministry as part of a ministry team. It is important to note that he was with the Boston Edison Company for 42 years.
William will be remembered for his kind and loving nature; a passionate man whose life was a testament to the power of living for others. His presence will continue to inspire those who knew him and the many lives he touched through his extensive community work. William's passing leaves a void in the community he served and the hearts of the family he loved so dearly. He leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and love — the profound marks of a life well-lived.
