William M. Dumas, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, of Whitman, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with lung disease. He was 67. Bill's legacy as a master furniture maker and a man of great humor and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.
Bill spent his professional life as a dedicated craftsman at Eldred Wheeler, where his skillful hands and keen eye for detail were evident in every piece of furniture he created. His work was not just a job but a passion, and he was recognized by his peers as a fantastic craftsman, bringing beauty and function into the homes of many.
Growing up, Bill was known for his playful spirit, often found wrestling with his siblings. As he grew older, his sense of humor blossomed, and he became known for his quiet but sharp wit. He had a particular love for comedies, with the antics of the Three Stooges and the movie "Tommy Boy" bringing him endless laughter. Bill's laughter was infectious, and he had a talent for lifting the spirits of those around him.
Bill was a good person and a loyal friend, known for his nonjudgmental nature and his willingness to lend a hand to those in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and he often went out of his way to help the less fortunate. He was a true embodiment of kindness. An avid sports fan, Bill's enthusiasm for the New England Patriots was unmatched. He never missed a game and shared his love of sports with anyone who would listen. Yet, it was the annual tradition of watching "It's A Wonderful Life" every Christmas that truly captured the warmth of his heart.
Bill's love for Classic Rock music was a testament to his vibrant spirit. The timeless tunes were the soundtrack to his life, and he found joy in the melodies and memories they evoked. Kind, funny, and generous are the words that best describe Bill. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and bring smiles to the faces of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
