William Francis “Bill” Foley, of Weymouth, died peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Dwyer Home in Weymouth surrounded by family. He was 73.

Bill was born in Boston on July 20, 1952, and was the son of the late William Henry and Anne E. (Murphy) Foley.

Bill was a devoted family man, proud firefighter, loyal soldier, and cherished brother of the firehouse. He passed away leaving behind a legacy defined by service, strength, humor, and unwavering love for his family. Bill lived a life guided by three great callings: service to his country, dedication to the firehouse, and devotion to his family.

Bill was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston. He proudly served his nation after being drafted into the United States Army on October 12, 1972. During his military service, he earned the rank of Specialist (E-4) and faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War. His time in the Army reflected the same courage, discipline, and sense of duty that would later define his career and his life.

Following his military service, Bill answered another call to serve, building a distinguished 35-year career with the Boston Fire Department, a profession he deeply loved and proudly embraced every day. The fire service was more than a job to Bill, it was his identity, his brotherhood, and his second home.

Throughout his career, Bill was assigned to the D Street Fire House in South Boston, serving with Engine 39 and Ladder 18, and proudly rode on Engine 39. For the final ten years of his service, he held the respected role of Aide to the District Chief for the City of Boston Fire Department, a position reflecting his leadership, dedication, and trusted presence.

Inside the firehouse, Bill was known for his heart and spirit. He was the cook who brought everyone together around the table, the one who could always be counted on, and the man whose laughter and quick wit filled every room. His fun sense of humor and love of joking strengthened the bonds of the firehouse brotherhood and lifted the spirits of all who served beside him.

While the firehouse was his second family, Bill’s greatest pride was always his family at home. He married the love of his life on November 7, 1982, at St. Mary’s Church in Scituate, Massachusetts. Together they built a life in South Weymouth, where he resided since 1982.

Bill was the definition of a devoted father. He was always present, always supportive, and always proud. He faithfully brought his children to their sporting events and extracurricular activities, cheering them on with the same passion and commitment he gave to his work in the fire service. To his children, he was their protector, provider, and greatest champion.

A tireless worker, Bill was rarely idle. He took immense pride in caring for his home, famously painting the house at least eight times over the years. When he allowed himself time to relax, he enjoyed laying out by the pool, surrounded by family and friends.

Bill’s life was built on service to his country, to his city, to his brothers in the firehouse, and most importantly to his family. He was a friendly and generous soul, a social butterfly who welcomed everyone with warmth and stood ready to help anyone in need. His strength, loyalty, humor, and selflessness leave a lasting example of what it means to live with purpose.

Bill’s legacy continues through his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.

Bill was the beloved husband of Maryann (Casali) Foley of Weymouth. He was the devoted father of William Foley and his wife Melissa of Norwell, Sean Foley and his wife Meghan of Weymouth, Kerry Foley of Weymouth, Erin Nelson and her husband Gregory of Scituate, and Megan Foley of Weymouth. Bill was the loving grandfather of Atley, Seamus, Brynn, Reagan, Austin, and Makenna. He was the dear brother of Stephen Foley and his wife Dawn of Franklin, and Judith Foley of Braintree. Bill is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Route 18 opposite of South Shore Hospital).

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM.

Services will conclude with interment and military honors in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Weymouth.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in Bill's name to the charitable organization of one's choice.
