Edward Michael Murphy, of Kingston, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on October 28, 2026. He was 74.
Beloved husband and soulmate of Jo-Anne (D’Acci) Murphy. They grew up in South Weymouth, where they met and eventually married in 1969. They settled in Kingston, where they’ve raised their family since 1987.
Loving father of Michael Murphy and his life partner Eric Ferm of Middleborough, Daniel Murphy and his wife, Patricia Fernandes of Westborough, Erin Courchesne and her husband, Joseph of Chicopee, Kate Grant of Kingston, and Beth Murphy and her life partner Alan Jennings of Jamaica Plain.
Grandfather of Violet, Hayden, Douglas, Gwen, Liam, and Nichole.
Brother of Mary Murphy of Norwell, James Murphy, III and his wife, Carolyn, of Weymouth, the late Eileen Castagna and her surviving husband, Russell of South Boston, and the late Patricia Wilson and her late husband, James.
Son of the late James Murphy Jr. and Edna (McDonald) Murphy. Son-in-law of the late Joseph and Bernice (O’Hare) D’Acci.
Ed leaves behind many loved ones, including in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless close friends. He was foremost a family man; a man of faith, integrity, and humility, he provided unconditional love and support to those who touched his life.
A self-proclaimed “geek” he learned the value of hard work and education at an early age from many great teachers, in particular, the late Sister Patrice of St. Francis Xavier in South Weymouth. He received a BA in Economics from UMASS Boston in 1976, graduating summa cum laude and later went on to receive an MBA from Boston University in 1991.
After a long productive career he retired from Verizon in 2003 as Executive Director of Information Technology. He went on to work for Emdeon Business Services as Project Manager and Business Analyst until his retirement in 2011.
Ed had many interests. A diehard Red Sox fan, he was thrilled to see them break the Curse of the Bambino in 2004 and go on to win three more championship titles. He was an avid history buff, reader, problem solver and critical thinker. He enjoyed many hours of playing games with family; from trivia, or a spirited game of cards, to Nintendo with his grandkids. He loved music, especially The Beatles, whether just listening or singing along to his favorite tunes.
He had a sharp wit and a way with words. After his retirement, he committed his story to paper for his family and friends in a memoir to commemorate the experiences and people who shaped his life. To quote Ed Murphy, “I know I am a very fortunate person. I thank the Lord for the blessings that have been bestowed upon me.”
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday November 28, 2026 at 10:30 AM in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant Street, Weymouth.
