William A. "Bill" O'Shea, originally from Savin Hill, Dorchester, passed away peacefully at his home in Quincy on Monday, July 27th, surrounded by his family. He was 89.

Bill was born in Dorchester to Gertrude (Malley) and Maurice O'Shea and raised in the Savin Hill section of Dorchester. He graduated from Dorchester High School, where he served as quarterback and captain of the football team, earning him a college scholarship. As a teenager, he worked as an elevator operator and went on to become a proud union Lineman at Boston Edison. Bill's career at Boston Edison progressed to a position in Labor Relations, where he worked for many years before retiring in 1993. Not one to stay idle, he was later called back to his Edison roots to train the next generation of linemen.

While out with friends one summer night at Wollaston Beach in Quincy, he was introduced to the love of his life, Geri. The two hit it off and eventually married. They bought a home in Savin Hill where together they raised their 5 children. They were married for 63 years. In their later years, they returned to the area where they first met, Wollaston Beach, Quincy.

Neighborhood and community were everything to him. He was instrumental in the founding of The Colonel Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club in Dorchester where Bill also served as its first President.

Bill had a natural gift for leading, teaching, and setting an example, a gift that carried into his passion for coaching. He spent many years coaching at Boston College High School, leading the team to two championships.

In his spare time, Bill stayed active. An avid golfer, he loved organizing tournaments and devoted many hours to coaching in Pop Warner leagues. He also enjoyed softball and bowling. When he was home, he was everyone's go-to handyman, always happiest keeping busy in his garage workshop.

Above all, Bill was a devoted family man, loyal to those he loved. He was as hardworking as they came, and generous with both the fruits of his labor and his time.

Beloved husband of 63 years to Geraldine “Geri” (Tobin) O’Shea of South Boston. Devoted father to Bill O’Shea Jr. and his wife Gail of Wilmington, Noreen O’Shea and her partner Nancy Seretta of Marblehead, Karen McDevitt and her late husband Michael of Quincy, Susan O’Shea and her husband Jim of West Roxbury and Julie Guia and her husband Alex of Quincy. Loving brother to Mary Senier, Justin O’Shea and the late Maurice, Robert, Paul and Danny O’Shea. Bill is also survived by 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, August 3rd, from 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Tuesday, August 4th, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston.
