William George Quirk

William G. Quirk — known to all as Bill, and to his adoring nieces as Uncle Billy — passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, at the Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree, Massachusetts. Born in 1938, Bill grew up in Dorchester and later relocated to Quincy. Bill left this world the way he lived in it: with quiet dignity, deep faith, and the love of his family close to his heart.

A devout Catholic his entire life, Bill’s faith was the gentle compass that guided him through every joy and challenge. He was a loving husband to his beloved wife Sarah, who predeceased him; a proud and tender father to his daughter Alanna and her husband Greg Hill; a protective brother to Ellyn Weinrich and brother-in-law to Steve Weinrich; and the most cherished "Uncle Billy" to his nieces Leah Weinrich and her fiancé Gregory Glenn and Kerry Weinrich and her husband Dean Swanson. He was also a beloved uncle to Noreen V. King and Miguel Carias of Stoughton and brother-in-law to the late Noreen M. King of Dorchester. To his family, Bill was simply irreplaceable—the steady bedrock who held everyone together with his warmth, wisdom, and boundless generosity.

Bill’s distinguished career in aviation spanned more than three decades. He served as a U.S. Army aviator from 1962 to 1965, then flew proudly for Northeast Airlines from 1966 to 1972 and was promoted to an Airline Captain for Delta Airlines in 1972 until his retirement in 1996. A graduate of Boston University, he carried his passion for learning wherever he went. Bill loved history and geography with the enthusiasm of a lifelong explorer, and he rooted fervently for his Boston Red Sox through every triumph and heartbreak. But what truly set him apart was his role as the family’s keeper of stories. He remembered every birthday, anniversary, and milestone with astonishing detail. A wealth of knowledge when it came to dates, stories, and lineage. Generous to a fault, he delighted everyone with his humorous tales that brought laughter and warmth to any gathering.Though our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort knowing Bill is reunited with Sarah, watching over us all with the same quiet strength and boundless love he showed every day of his life. He will be missed beyond words, but his stories, his faith, and his love will live on in us forever.

The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Old Colony Hospice or Interfaith Social Services.

Friends and relatives are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Ann's Church on Saturday January 10, 2025 at 10AM in Quincy, followed by burial at Mount Benedict in Boston.
