Phyllis Ann Rebecca Tench

Phyllis Ann Rebecca Tench, affectionately known as “Phyl” to her family and “Teacher” to her friends and former students, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, April 18, 2021.

Phyllis was born in Tela, Honduras and graduated from Tela Episcopal School and later taught there.  She emigrated to the United States in 1957 and became a U.S. citizen in 1963.

She loved taking annual trips to the Jersey Shore and Nova Scotia to visit family.  Her hobbies included cooking, playing piano, tea parties, bowling and Skee-Ball.

Phyllis was baptized in 1968 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Boston, Massachusetts.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth Dyer, siblings Hiram Vanzie, Mavis Burch, Mary Ellen Harnett and Aleathea Dyer.

Phyllis was the adored wife of 65 years to the late Ronald Allendale Ignatius Tench, Sr. ; devoted mother of the late Ronald Allendale Ignatius, Jr. ; Joan Tench of Dorchester, Marcia Tench-Mora of Dorchester, Phyllis Ann Tench-White and husband Bruce of Malden, beloved grandmother of Davicia Phyllis-Maree Smith and husband Jonathan of Holbrook; great-grandmother of Elijah and Josiah and is survived by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and a multitude of loving friends.  She will be dearly missed by all.

Visiting hours will be Friday, April 30, 2021, 5-8pm.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 12pm at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, Massachusetts and via Zoom.  Please see the Zoom link above. Private burial immediately following.

Normally, the funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. For those who cannot gather together with Phyllis’s family at this time, friends may still offer their support by sharing a special memory or message by clicking the link above.
