William J. Murphy

William “Bill” Murphy, 78, of Quincy, MA passed away on December 19, 2020. 

He was born to the late George and Elizabeth “Betty” Burney Murphy on August 22, 1942 in the Bronx, NY. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannie Murphy of Quincy, MA, his brothers, George and his wife Marion of The Bronx, New York, James and wife Christina, of  Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, John and his wife Donna of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, his sister-in-laws Carol Murphy of Myerstown, Pennsylvania, and Margaret Murphy of Wallingford, Connecticut. He is predeceased by his brothers Robert and Kenneth. Many nieces, nephews and their husbands, wives and children will also miss their Uncle Bill. In addition, Bill has three children, including daughter Jill Murphy of West Windsor, NJ , Scott Murphy and his wife Gretchen, their children, Shannon, Kelly, Ryan and Shane, of East Earl PA,  Christian Murphy, and his wife, Jeannie, and children, Jake and Gunner, of Egg Harbour NJ, Additionally, Bill is survived by his step-son, Paul Joyce, his wife, Karina, and their children, Coleman and Beckett. Bill was a beloved brother, father, and grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all. 

Bill spent a few years as a rodeo cowboy, aka “Billy Lane”,  and as a truck driver, before becoming a cameraman for CBS for 25 years. He mostly covered football and golf for television, and won two Emmy awards for his work.  Bill loved cooking, especially seafood, golfing with his friends at George Wright Golf Club, watching old Western films, horses, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He was a kind, loving friend to all, making people laugh, and taking care of those around him. Bill had an outgoing personality. He was very personable and made everyone feel comfortable around him. Family was important to him and he travelled many hours to attend Murphy Family Functions. He will be sorely missed.

Family and friends are invited to visit Keohane Funeral Home on Monday, December 28 , at 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA from 9-10:30 AM followed by the Mass at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Parish at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Quincy.
