I primarily knew Jan through the Duxbury Free Library (she hired me for my very first job!) but also through Bay Players and the Ceilidh music nights that she hosted at the Library for so many years. I remember her fondly as an arts supporter of all kinds -- not just established artists and actors and poets, but also to beginners whose initial attempts needed encouragement and an audience. Jan's was the kind of smiling, encouraging face you'd most like to see when nervously trying out a new song. Sending condolences to Jan's family and children on the loss of an extraordinary person. It's nice to read here about her time in New Hampshire and Vermont. I'm in California but would love to view a service if it's available online.
Kelly RyerLate but heartfelt condolences to my cousins. I have so many good memories of my Aunt Jan. Swimming in Edinboro Lake, watching a Nor-easter come in over the Atlantic as night fell, and of course, my Mom always calling me "Aunt Jan." I took it as a compliment. Thank you all for arranging this memorial and inviting family and friends. I wish I could attend in person.
Sue WalshI knew Jan back in our Duxbury days. She was a great librarian, an influential supporter of the arts, and a dear friend. Condolescences and warm wishes to her much-loved family.
Barbara DuVal HallSending my deepest sympathy to Jan's family. I worked with Jan at the Duxbury Free Library for the 10 years prior to her retirement, and I always appreciated her enthusiasm for writing, art, music and drama. She provided wonderful reference service to the library users, and knew so much about the library. Her work lives on - something she wrote about our history room was used by one of my colleagues just a few months ago!
Rose HickeyI was so sorry to hear of Jan's passing. It was a pleasure to know her and to care for her at Hancock Park. She always has a big smile on her face and would light up a room. She was a good friend to her peers on 4 west and she will be missed. Be well,
Priscilla PoliWe got to know Janice when she lived in Haverhill and loved seeing her joy in being around her family and their friends involved in school activities. I always looked forward to her newspaper articles, one of her many accomplishments. She has become a star in the heavens now, shining a little extra light on our world.
Richard Pollock, Wendy Gray, Kara MooreIt was my honor to be Janice’s doctor for several years in Woodsville. I remember her very fondly, both from the office and at all the community events she covered. She was always so warm and caring. I’m sorry for your loss.
Sarah young-xuDavid, Lynda, Karl, Jennifer and families. We were deeply sadden to hear of Janice's death. Wish we could be there in person to share our feelings. We know the last few years were hard for her and you. Please find peace in all the wonderful memories you have.
Bill and Mary Lou Ernest“ Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.” -Mary Elizabeth Frye May these words bring some comfort during this time— we are thinking of you here in NYC and I will always remember the fond memories we have with Aunt Jan!
