Condolences to the Family of William G. Mahoney

2020

To the Mahoney family - We were deeply saddened to learn of Billy’s passing. He was truly one of a kind - full of life and passion, and loved by all of us. We will always cherish the many visits to Putnam Street for Thanksgiving and Christmas to see Auntie Joan, Uncle Bill, the Mahoney girls, and of course Billy. He brought the excitement and fun to every family get-together - as a bonus when we would arrive on Thanksgiving we could always count on Billy for a full report on the high school football games across the state. All of us are better for knowing Billy - even in our current state of sadness it is difficult not to smile. He had a wonderful family to support him throughout his life and lived life to the fullest. The YouTube video was an amazing tribute to Billy - it brought out so many memories and emotions. He will never be forgotten. With sympathy and love, Mark and Pam Fernberg, and family

My condolences to the Mahoney family for your loss. When I heard the news, I was filled with sadness and nostalgia. Billy was my next door neighbor and friend of my brother Peter and I growing up. He was indeed a Putnam Street icon, and the common thread that wove throughout the neighborhood. He may have been the only one with a sweeter tooth than Peter and me. He often joined us, along with our neighbor John Henry and other friends, in our games of wiffle ball and touch football. He also helped out with my father's baseball team over a span of over ten years. If there were a Bat Boy Hall of Fame, Billy would be in it. This Thanksgiving I will give thanks to having known Billy, and raise a toast in his honor.

So sad that all of you have to say farewell to Billy. I have amazing memories of the few months that I lived in Putnam St - great times and fun memories and Billy was always in the midst of it. He will be sorely missed. Cherish all of your memories. Sending all of you love and hugs & hopefully we will get the opportunity to reminisce in person once this pandemic is behind us xxx

To the Mahoney Family, I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful brother Billy. I will always remember Billy's love of sports, how he competed in Track and Field, helped out QHS Football and was the 3rd base coach of the Granite Rail Softball Team, a special memory for me was Billy calling "timeout" when I got up to bat and giving me advice on where to hit the ball! I was so lucky to call him my friend and for everyone who met Billy they became a better person, Love, Jane

A Putnam Street icon, Bill "Lee" was a nickname that I remember he inherited when growing up as this pitcher for the Red Sox was one of Billy's favorite. He was always welcomed to join any gathering, contributed on any neighborhood team and participated in all social events at Putnam Street and beyond. We will miss him dearly and may god rest his soul.

I always looked forward to seeing and speaking with Billy. We used to ride home on the red line together, and it was always a happy ride, he and I were both happy to see one another. I loved when he would come over to my mother's house and entertain us. I am so glad I got to spend last thanksgiving with him. All the Lawlors loved Billy as well as my husband, Paul. Billy made a great impact on us and he will be fondly remembered. God Bless Billy and his family.

Billy was the first individual to make an impact on me when I came to work at TILL!! I met him at the Winter Ball with his sister, Kathleen and he promised to save me a dance. As the evening was coming to a close, Billy approached me and said he was going to be leaving but we needed to dance!! From that moment on, Billy had a piece of my heart!! And he always will!! God bless you, Billy!!
