Condolences to the Family of Ruth Elizabeth Achorn

2022

Paula, Mark, Nancy and Scott. I only just today learned of your mom's passing. I am sorry for your pain. I hope you have spent the last year remembering and telling funny stories about her. Growing up on Draper Street, and then even when they moved to Gallivan Blvd, your parents always treated me like one of the family. Some of my fondest memories are of road trips in your mom's Impala or your dad's station wagon. You are all in my thoughts.

Nancy and family - so sorry for your great loss - although I don't believe I ever met your Mom, I feel as if I knew her from all the posts from you and the girls over the years.

Ruth I remember as an independent, strong willed woman. She married, raised a family, worked and travelled. An inspiration for many to follow your dreams. Rest in peace, Ruth!

Infinitely curious across languages, disciplines, professions, theater, art and culture, Nanny was a woman beyond her times. She graduated from a prestigious Boston High School of the times and was a life long learner. At any given time, Nanny was enrolled in a college or professional course, engaged in self study of health and medicine, planning international travel or studying another country or culture. Above all, she was a bonafide intellectual and found great joy and satisfaction in recalling her eclectic and nontraditional education throughout her later years. This especially, and the excellent sense of humor she kept in tow, brought her comfort as the aging process began to limit her activities, socializing and other abilities. She loved and was deeply proud of all of her children and grandchildren. For all she was and all she wasn't, she exemplified self acceptance in a world and times that often tells us to do just the opposite.
