Condolences to the Family of Jerry R. Faust

2021

I only now heard about Jerry's death. I am so sorry to lose such a kind and talented man. We used to teach together at Tufts and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Jerry's passing. "Dr Faust," as I used to call him, and I were Football Officials in the Dallas Football Officials Association. We both came up together in the mid-1970's. Being new officials we worked Jr. High, 9th, and JV games, then Saturday's would be 4-6 Pee Wee games. Jerry was one of my best friends through officiating. When we began to get Varsity Games, "Red" Meisenheimer, the then-long time Chapter Secretary, would send us to the smaller outlying schools. Forty years ago those schools included Kemp, Maybank, Frisco, Celina among others. It was those "road trips" especially coming back late on a Friday night where friendships were chiseled into lifetime memories. I remember when Jerry told me he was moving to Boston. I said, "Jerry, you just cannot leave!" That's how much he was admired in Dallas. I have always felt that Jerry went on to great things. I now know that was true. I know Jerry is looking down and anyone that was part of Dallas Football officiating in those days will fully understand the following: "Red, I Can Go!" Dr. Jerry Faust --- R I P !

Jerry gave me my first job after college. I like to relate to people my experiences working with him. He made me better! He personified a Texan to me. He was a great guy. I have been thinking of him time to time and looked him up today and was sorry to see him pass. God Bless you Jerry.

My deepest sympathies to the Faust family and friends. Jerry was a long time colleague in officiating, and was always a great crewmate. We had many laughs and although he has been out of officiating for a while, he will be greatly missed.

I'm sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. I met Jerry officiating football. His passion inspired me. When I was confused about a rule he would explain in a way that I could understand. He was a mentor to me and he was my friend. To those who knew him best I'm sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Jerry. I'll remember you always. Brad Farrington

Laura - So sorry to hear about your loss. Jerry was always one of my favorites to stop and talk to. He was so down to earth. He was always so appreciative of anything that we in Facilities did for him. I remember when he graduated and got his own lab. The two of you always made me laugh when you talked golf with me out on Harrison Ave. I tried to picture the sight of the two of you on the course! May the memories of all your good times bring you peace. God Bless Steve Nasson

I never got to meet Jerry in person (I live in Finland and rarely visit US), but I consider him a good friend from the online football officials' community. It seems only yesterday when we were last discussing rules and mechanics together. Jerry was always willing to share his knowledge with younger officials like me, and his efforts are a major part of my officiating knowledge. My condolences to you all!

So many of us owe so much to Jerry for his sage counsel, advice and friendship over the years. He likely never knew the number of people he trained in the football officiating world as many of us took what we learned from Jerry and used it to mentor others. His influence spread border to border and even internationally thanks to the modern technology of the late 90's and into the 21st century. His humble but honest approach was surpassed only by his willingness to help others. I still don't know how he managed to do as much as he did but am forever thankful for having had the chance to meet him and partner with him in developing football officials for many years. Thank you to Laura for sharing him with us for all those years.
