Quincy Police Department Provides New Online Resources

In an effort to increase the department’s accessibility and communication, Quincy Police have updated their website and released a smartphone application.

“Between the website and Facebook and our Twitter account, we’re up and running for the future, which is here,” said Lieutenant Detective Patrick Glynn, who is in command of The Drug Control Unit. “It’s pretty informative and very easy to navigate through. So, there’s multiple avenues to communicate as opposed to just the anonymous tip line, where some people would rather do it online.”

The new Quincy Police Department website, quincypolice.org , went live a few months ago and provides important updates and crime reports; answers frequently asked questions; has links to online forms; and posts a phone list to contact the police department. Most importantly, it provides opportunities to leave anonymous tips about drug related activity or any other type of crime through online forms, email, and a hot line.

“ That’s more or less personalized police service. That’s what the people want and anything to make it easier to for them to give us information helps us because we run on information, and if we don’t have any things are a lot slower,” said Glynn.

Quincy Police Smartphone App

Quincy Police have also released a smartphone application that connects users directly to the Police Department from their iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone.

“Basically it’s a mini website. People are able to access complaints; actually give a police officer a commendation or a complaint; be able to file any paperwork online or get forms, such as accident forms and so forth,” said Glynn. “It’s very user-friendly.”

The MyPD app includes features for checking on the latest department news, including Twitter updates and Facebook posts. It can also be used for sharing feedback and questions, sending crime tips, finding directions to the department, and commending a police officer. Users can also choose to get alerts directly to their device.
