Distributing Warmth: Keohane Completes Second Annual Coat Drive

January 27, 2014

Our 2 nd Annual Coat Drive was a success, and a testament to the kindness of our community. Keohane participated in the drive, along with several local organizations, in order to distribute warm coats to those in need this winter.

We again surpassed our goal of 250 coats, as each community contributed: Quincy, Weymouth, Hingham, Hull and surrounding Boston and South Shore towns. It was nice to see that many of the families we serve were able to donate some of their loved ones coats and take comfort in knowing they would be put to good use.

All coats were distributed through Interfaith Social Services just in time for the brutally cold weather and snow that set in. Rick Doane, Executive Director of Interfaith, witnessed the powerful effect a warm coat can have for someone in need:

“Being able to provide warm coats during the New England winter is just another way a small act can have a big impact. The recipients were incredibly grateful. I recall one elderly lady who walked in for her food allotment, wearing a very thin, tattered coat on a freezing day. We were able to provide her with a meal, as well as a very warm coat. It felt good to provide extra, unexpected comfort to someone in need.”

At Keohane, we take pride in our social responsibility and support our local communities throughout the year however we can. Seeing our community participate in the Coat Drive during such a busy season was a great reminder of the true holiday spirit.

We look forward to next December, when we will surely continue our tradition of spreading warmth throughout our community.
