5th Annual Coat Drive Huge Success!
Our deepest appreciation goes out to our generous community. With your help, we were able to donate nearly five hundred gently used coats to provide much needed warmth to those in need during this winter season.
The donated coats were distributed to the needy through Interfaith Social Services in Quincy, Weymouth Youth and Family Services in Weymouth, and the Wellspring Multi-Service Center in Hull to those in need of a little extra warmth this winter.
“Every year our clients are grateful for Keohane Funeral Home’s annual coat drive. As families came in to request emergency food or Christmas gifts for their children we asked them if they needed a coat. We had a rack full of coats next to our intake desk and clients were so excited to find something warm for them or their children. They are always so surprised by the question and overjoyed when they find a coat in the size they are looking for,” said Rick Doane, Executive Director. “Interfaith Social Services operates one of the largest emergency food programs in Greater Boston. Serving thousands of South Shore residents in need every year. In addition to hunger alleviation our programs also include mental health counselling and homelessness prevention.”
The first Keohane coat drive started in 2012, and we were delighted when we exceeded our initial goal of collecting 250 coats for the first time. Because the effort was so successful, we established an annual coat drive and have been collecting coats each fall for the past five years.
“We love to keep the tradition going. We know that the coats are certainly helping people that have a need at this time of year,” said Co-President John Keohane . “We’re thrilled to continue to support our community and those in need with the annual tradition that we’ve started and we hope to keep it going for many years.”
